Stretch

Stretch Yourself

I’m not sure what happened to the time/space continuum last year. I feel like it folded and I stepped through a worm hole because I can’t believe we’re already into 2023. Much has happened from the beginning (cue moving Transatlantic after living nearly 28 years in Switzerland) and I have long accepted that adjustment is a constant of Life.

I was reading yet another renovation blog (cue current renovation of installing a wood-burning stove in place of a cheap 90s fireplace), and a point resonated deeply with me:

As I make a plan for what to focus on in 2023, there is a running theme: Stretch. Stretch my comfort zone. Stretch my creativity. Stretch my skills. Stretch my imagination. Stretch my network.

My plan includes blog posts about organising sewing spaces, increasing interaction with all the busy bobbins in the physical & virtual world, expanding skills by jumping into making videos (possibly more headaches while editing said videos 😜), new projects, and teaching collaborations. There is much to do and much to learn.

Like the author of the above post, I am also a big believer in disruptive change as a positive force. I reflect on the reasons why I’m willing to do these things that, on the surface, may seem unnecessary. The main reason is that I want to enjoy my life, my space, my tribe, RIGHT NOW. I don’t want to become complacent, happy to settle for less than “the dream”. That doesn’t mean it will be perfect, or without challenges, but these challenges could result in a shift and change to become even better than I originally imaged. I think the journey is worth the effort. Let’s get stuck in. 😊
