I’m still new to Blogland and virtual quilting bees and linky parties but I’m finding such wonderful inspiration from all of it. I have to be careful about how much I sign up to do because while I want to do it ALL, my clones would end up with much of the fun. This said, have you participated in one of the many virtual quilting bees and somehow it petered out and you’ve only got a few orphan blocks? Or at the other end of the spectrum, you need just a few more blocks to finish off a project? You’re in luck! Hayley, from Mrs. Pickle’s Garden, has created a Flickr group called Bees Helping Bees. You can join this public group and post if you have a need for some blocks to finish up a quilt. So far there are 32 members and we have helped 2 quilters to get enough blocks to finish their quilts.
One such example is the Paintbox Blocks I finished for Hayley:
I love these colours! The block was a new one for me, easy to do, very well described in the tutorial by Oh, Fransson! (as usual). It’s a sweet combination of simple but effective blocks. I think it would make a great baby quilt and go very quickly. Unlike this beauty, which I also recently finished. There will be another post to follow about this quilt.
The group isn’t about pointing fingers and tsk-tsking about PhDs (Projects half Done). It’s just a nice way to to help others get those beautiful quilts done so you can get on with enjoying them. Personally, I like being able to make just a couple of blocks sometimes. It allows me to try something new without the internal pressure to make it a bigger project. Maybe it’s destined to be added to my own Quilt Bucket list but maybe I just need a little mini project that doesn’t end up on my pile of mug rugs and is helpful to someone.
Right now we’ve got 32 Quilty Bees, with no new projects, happy to bee of assistance. If you need help, stop by and join. Looking forward to seeing how we can add a helping thread!

This is a wonderful idea. Unfortunately I can’t keep up with all the commitments I have to groups, bees and quilt alongs as it is at the moment and I’m stopping myself taking on anything new but I’m filing it in the back of my head for future consideration. I think it’s just brilliant 🙂
I know what you mean about being careful not to commit. I wish I could play more with all the great things going on out in the bloggy world. Not sure when I would find the time to do everything. This group looks like something I might want to check out though. Thanks for sharing!
