First, a tip of the hat to say thanks to Madame Samm and Erin at Sew At Home Mummy for starting all this wonderful inspiration! I am having a great time visiting new blogs (BlogLovin is straining under my continuous additions) and seeing how others have interpreted this theme.
It’s been raining here for what seemed like weeks non-stop so it’s actually appropriately named. The forecast says we’re in for a bit of drier, sunnier weather, and I think we can all do with that. My inspiration for my mug rug was actually a garden upcycle.
I loved the idea of using outgrown boots for planters. Of course, it wouldn’t look like this in my garden. Unless the seeds dropped themselves into the boots & it continued to rain on them. Plants have to survive in spite of me if they hope to have a chance. But I loved the idea. I wanted to try my hand at interpreting this image into fabric. Challenge accepted.
I tried not to be too hard on myself and let things flow, not trying to correct every little thing. Doing raw edge appliqué as well as somewhat improv layering makes me nervous. In the end, I like my boot planters, though I think they look more like Christmas stockings. It’s ok. I love the colours. I wish I had a pair of wellies like the pink pattern. It was a good exercise to stretch my boundaries and a great opportunity to use some new Aurifil thread that I just got in stock.
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you’ll have a look around, follow me on your favourite reader, and maybe find a bit of inspiration to challenge yourself. Now it’s time to head on to the other blogs for today and see what they’ve created. If you want to see the full schedule, click here.

Oh what a creative girly you are! I am MOST impressed to say the least! And yes, if I too could have a pair of those pink wellies I would be a happy little canuck!

Your mug rug looks like boots to me! I like this idea, both for a mug rug and with real boots. Great job!
I love the way your rug turned out. Thanks for sharing.
You did a great job of interpretation and good for you to let it ‘flow’!

So very lovely. The design looks great and you put it together so well. Thanks for sharing and inspiring.
Very nice boots. Lovely rug. We don’t mind a bit that they look a little stocking-ish.
cute!
Beautiful mug rug. I love your galoshes – and filled with flowers. Great inspiration.
Great job! I love your mug rug and the fence with the boots and flowers. Lovely.
That is absolutely adorable! Love the little galoshes. Great work!
Too cute!!!! There is not enough rain here in Texas to support those seeds and the sun would melt the boots in the summer:)
What an wonderful idea (both the real deal and the mug rug) for your mug rug! You executed it so well; they do not look like Christmas. Great sky and fence, too. Super!
Your mug rug is fantastic! Congratulations on being a featured one today — not surprising, as this one really is fabulous!
thanks for sharing your fun mug rug. I enjoyed it.
Such great inspiration, and you did a marvelous job creating a mug rug from it!
Beautiful! You did a fantastic job – I just love all of those Wellies hanging from the fence!
Thanks for participating in the hop with us!
You are so funny about seeds dropping themselves in the boots, etc…..love it! I don’t have much of a green thumb, so that would have to happen at my house, too. Your mug rug is just so adorable and is a great interpretation of the picture. I’m so glad you hopped with us!
Darling little boots! I love the sky fabric too, absolutely perfect!
Love your mug rug! I have a friend who uses old leather boots to plant flowers. Thank you for sharing.
Its lovely – I love the stormy looking sky. Thanks for sharing.
Your hanging boots are very cute. I would love to have them in my garden too but someone else would have to take care of them. My skills do not include gardening. Much rather have a mug rug of flowers.!
I like your boots on the fence, If I had a fence I would try this, but I tend to kill plants.
Adorable! I just love this… makes me smile.
I love your rain boots with the flowers hanging on the fence! The mug rug that you made to look like that is wonderful! So cute.
So FUN! Love the original idea and your interpretation is wonderful!
what a fun image and mug rug. thanks for sharing!
Well i think it looks great. Very “Springish”. If you think it looks like Chrsitmas stockings. You might could do it in Christmas colors and add snow on the ground….just an idea…
What a great idea Tammy! That could look so cute!
love your mug rug. creative
Your mug rug is sooo cute. I really love it. You did a wonderful job with the boots and flowers. I wish I could grow flowers like that ! But I don’t have a green thumb. All I can do is plant them and hope for the best. Great job! Thank you for sharing today.
Even if they looked like stockings instead of boots they would be cuter than the dickens! Well done for finding the image and making it into a fabric version.
I’m with you on the lack of green thumb. The only thing I even try to grow is an aloe vera plant and it survives by benign neglect. Used to do grow lights when I lived in basement apartments and jade plants were a fairly good choice, LOL. Succulents—store water in those leaves.
I love your outgoing boots mug rug. How clever and creative!!
You did quite well, you deserve a pat on the back. I totally empathize with the plants growing in spite of me
How cute is your mug rug ! I totally get your nervousness in improv sewing. I had to chuckle though, around here, it doesn’t rain all that much anymore and people don’t have rain boots unless you work in a dairy, use your imagination as to why.
My grandparents had a farm with plenty of cattle. I know all too well why you’d need wellies at a dairy! lol
Great interpretation! I have seen that picture before and it is darling! Thanks for sharing.
I like your mug rug – what a great idea to use old wellies as planters!
What a wonderful inspiration and you did a great job redoing it in fabric. I would love to have some hanging plants that looked like that.
What a great mug rug, I don’t have a very good green thumb either, it’s why I like bulbs, roses and jasmine, just plant them and they grow, I do have to trim my roses but that’s about it.
My jaw dropped when I saw your mug rug! I was admireing the phot of your little rain boots and then saw your mug rug, it’s so sweet and endearing! Yu made a great mug rug! Let things flow, Elita, you are doing great! Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful finish, beauty of an inspiration photo!
What an adorable little mug rug! It certainly brings spring to mind! Great job!
Thanks for the gboot idea – love it, love your mug rug – way adorable
Adorable! Great job on your rain boots!
What a lovely translation in fabric. Great job.

Challenged accepted and you did good…I laughed about your gardening skills…lol
your muse did you well..you will see why..
Love your wellies on the fence! I saw that photo somewhere else…..maybe Pinterest…..and thought it was so cute. Great job on your version!
So cute – thanks for sharing your creative mug rug.
Lovely boots, and super mug rug! Good interpretation!
Love your mug rug. Had a giggle about the seeds planting themselves as that is how I garden too! Thanks for sharing.
Your interpretation of the hanging boots is marvelous! The colors are beautiful and I enjoyed seeing your creativity. A lot of work and so well done! But I have to say it’s nearly impossible for me to view anything on your blog because of the dark blue background. It seems to suck all the color away. Just my opinion.
