Baby Clothes & Heartstrings – A Memory Quilt
2 part class, 6 hours total – $69
In this class, we will be taking those lovely items that tug at your heartstrings and make them into something you can enjoy for years to come.
These items can be just about anything. Possible items that you may want to use: dresses, scraps of a well-loved blanket, scraps from clothing you have sewn for your child, trousers, Onesies, shirts, jackets, nightgowns, sleepers, or dressing-up costumes. You can also use pullovers & cardigans, though thin ones are best.
For this design, you will need 84 pieces of fabric in total, that will be 4.5” square before we sew them together. You DON’T need 84 pieces of clothing! Remember that you can use multiple parts of a single item of clothing. Usually 3-4 squares can be cut from each item, sometimes more if it’s larger, at the same time with quick tools. Stabilizer will be provided but you will also need some fabric for the separating strip and the backing fabric. This will make a quilt about 45″ square.
We will discuss finishing techniques using either flannel or Minkie or perhaps something you already have. Stabilizer, rotary cutters, cutting mats, ironing stations are available for use during the class. A fabric supply list will be provided.
A sewing machine is required, along with basic sewing supplies.
