For Peaks 24, we’re going to be “Kicking Stash”! Thanks to a fantastic pattern of the same name from the talented Beth Helfter, of evapaigequilts, we’re going to use her relaxed technique and your scraps to create an adorable quilt in 4 sizes. You can choose totally scrappy or planned scrappy, spaced apart, cosy next to one another, or turned inside out to create a new design all together, with whatever colour palette you choose.
You will receive a paper copy of the pattern, with a supply list to be sent upon registration. A 6.5″ ruler will be helpful to help square up the quarter blocks before assembly. The pattern lends itself to using scraps and precuts very easily.
Our secondary project, should you wish to make it, will be a mini iron caddy. It takes just a fat quarter of fabric, which can be scraps, an orphan block, or a single piece of fabric.
You will need just a bit of fabric and some batting, and we’ll have some scorch/heatproof material and some colourful Velcro and buckles on hand. They’re so quick, you might want to make a few! 🙂
Mystery Stash Attack is back!
Please bring a large (3.78l) Ziploc bag of your favourite scraps, no larger than 3″ will be fine. We’ll have a special quick project to put those to good use. You can make it entirely from your scraps or share amongst everyone to find delightful combinations.
In addition to all this creativity, we’ll have the usual lovely dinners made by someone else (always a Chef Extraordinaire), hot tub, massages onsite by Morzine Massage, Dice Swap with fat quarters, goodies & gadgets in The Craft House shop and more to get your creative juices going.
What will you need to bring? A supply list will be provided but mostly, you just need fabric, thread, and your machine. Quilt Fairy Clare & I will be happy to help you in any way we can. Clare will have The Craft House shop onsite as well, with a selection of Aurifil threads, Quilters Dream batting, and a variety of other sewing notions. Anything you need from the mini-mobile shop you you can put it on your Tab, to be settled up onsite at the end of Peaks.
We also have Suki the Juki, our sit-down longarm, to help you make some progress! You can rent her by the hour (chf 15/hr), enjoying a large and newly renovated dedicated space to work. I already have a number of bobbins wound in neutral colours but will be happy to show you how to wind something from your thread stash if needed.
Need a bit more encouragement? Your own Secret Sister will be there to cheer you on! You’ll be one too and we’ll have lots of ideas to help you help encourage each other. Part of the fun is the secrecy!
Other fun for the weekend:
Fat Quarter Dice Swap: This is a fun little game to exchange Fat Quarters. You’ll need to bring three Fat Quarters (18″ x 22″).
Secret Sister: You’ll be assigned another person in the group to be their Secret Sister. The objective is to provide quiet, “secret” encouragement, in the form of very small gifts or notes, throughout the weekend. We’ll provide lots of ideas to get you started. Secret Sisters will be revealed after dinner on Saturday evening.
Machine Servicing: On Thursday, I will be performing Basic Machine servicing (at special Peaks pricing of chf 55) to all who wish to have a little “tune-up” before getting those needles flying!
If there’s anything else you are dying to know, from how to clean your machine (yes, that little metal bit comes off… 🙂 ) to how to figure out the quilt piecing lingo of a particular project, Clare and I are happy to help.
Afternoons are free time. Continue to work on your PhD’s/UFOs/PIGs, start a new project, have a massage, go for a walk. It’s up to you. There’s a hot tub too so be sure to pack your swimming costume! 🙂
Come join us in the Peaks!
